Covid-19 could be termed as the major global crisis of the 21st century. Looking back on to the previous century, the only equivalent to the current economic crisis—caused by the smallest microorganism—were the World Wars.
US China in struggle of power. How the global politics will transform?
America leads the world as a superpower but, the emerging superpower—China; shows the signs to lead the upcoming era of East Asian dominance.
As the World War started in August 1914, an era of unified economic policies and globalization came to an end. All the governments around the world tried to maintain a protectionist view which led to collapsed growth through out the world economies. And after a generation, the World has seen another War followed by Cold War.
Global politics seemed very different across the board between the years 1914-1989 as compared to the one before beginning of this epoch. It could be arguably considered as an era of ongoing conflict and power politics. Before World War I, the dominant economic and military powers were possessed by the British Kingdom. While after WW II the US superseded the British Empire’s dominating global position. The prominence of United States in global politics was intensified further after the fall of Soviet Union.
Whether the current pandemic situation and World Wars are historical parallels, and do we see some relevance between the impacts of World Wars and the post-coronavirus world?
Today we are going through another transitional era. Now a question arises that as a consequence of Covid-19 pandemic, how the global powers will transform. Whether the current pandemic situation and World Wars are historical parallels, and do we see some relevance between the impacts of World Wars and the post-coronavirus world? Admittedly, inasmuch as the economic emergency, a considerable geopolitical shift is going to hit the post-covid-19 world. Nonetheless, America leads the world as a superpower but, the emerging superpower—China; shows the signs to lead the upcoming era of East Asian dominance.
World knows the enmity of US and China even before the Covid-19 crisis as one of the major defining elements of the century we are living in. During the days of pandemic, this rivalry still aggravates which can be attributed to the upcoming presidential elections in US. For President Trump, everything is at risk. He was unable to cope with the pandemic and finds an escape in the blame game over China. Having said that, US wants to lead the world without taking responsibility. The US is creating a vacuum which China is wisely planning to substitute. China’s long-term patient behavior, apt policies, and Belt and Road Initiative will pave the way for her to be in a leading geopolitical position.China is emerging as a power way big, too important and predominantly successful to overlook. There is a need for cooperation based on ground realities without ignoring the difference between strategic association and a total submission.
